Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Micro SMGSMGs

Micro SMG

The Micro SMG is a compact automatic weapon for close-range fighting in GTA V. It has a small magazine but a high rate of fire, can be used while driving, and is available in both Story Mode and GTA Online.

StrengthThe Micro SMG combines automatic fire, a compact profile, and vehicle use in one weapon. Its main weaknesses are its small standard magazine, limited effective range, and comparatively low per-round damage. Firing continuously at longer distances is inefficient because recoil and spread make it harder to keep rounds on target.
Best suitedClose-range fights, vehicle combat, early-game automatic fire, and situations where a compact weapon is more convenient than a rifle.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of SMGSMGs

SMG

The SMG is a compact automatic submachine gun in Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online. It combines a high rate of fire with good mobility, making it useful at short and medium range, although its damage and accuracy are limited compared with most rifles.

StrengthAutomatic fire, a 30-round starting magazine and multiple magazine and sight options make the SMG a flexible close-range weapon.
Best suitedClose- to medium-range automatic fire and players who want a conventional SMG.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Assault SMGSMGs

Assault SMG

The Assault SMG is an automatic submachine gun in GTA V and GTA Online, with a 30-round standard magazine and a 60-round extended option.

StrengthAn automatic weapon with a generous extended magazine and useful attachments.
Best suitedClose- and medium-range fights where automatic fire and magazine capacity matter.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Pump ShotgunShotguns

Pump Shotgun

The Pump Shotgun is a pump-action shotgun in Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online. It uses standard shotgun ammunition, holds eight shells, and is effective at close range. In Story Mode it is available to the protagonists during several early missions and can later be purchased and customized at Ammu-Nation.

StrengthThe Pump Shotgun combines high close-range impact with an eight-shell capacity and simple handling. Its limitations are its pump-action cycle, short effective range and reduced suitability for engaging several distant targets quickly.
Best suitedClose-range fights, indoor spaces, ambushes and missions where a powerful single target weapon is more useful than sustained automatic fire.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Assault ShotgunShotguns

Assault Shotgun

The Assault Shotgun is a fully automatic shotgun in Grand Theft Auto V. It trades some close-range punch for a fast rate of fire, making it useful when several enemies are within short range.

StrengthThe Assault Shotgun's strength is sustained close-range fire. It can put several shots into a target quickly and does not require the pump action used by the Pump Shotgun. This makes it useful when an enemy survives the first blast, when several enemies rush the player, or when the player needs to clear a confined room quickly.
Best suitedClose-quarters fights, indoor missions, vehicle ambushes and groups of enemies that are close enough for several pellets to connect.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Assault RifleRifles

Assault Rifle

A Shrewsbury assault rifle sold at Ammu-Nation, with a 30-round magazine, at $8,550 and Rank 24 in GTA Online.

StrengthThe lowest GTA Online price of the five rifles compared below: $8,550, at Rank 24. Damage 30, fire rate 60, accuracy 45, range 45 on GTABase's ratings.
Best suitedGetting a customizable rifle at a lower price in GTA Online.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Carbine RifleRifles

Carbine Rifle

A Vom Feuer rifle based on AR-15 designs, costing $2,100 in Story Mode and $13,000 at Rank 42 in GTA Online.

StrengthA full set of attachments, including a grip and, in Online, a box magazine. Damage 32, fire rate 65, accuracy 55, range 45 on GTABase's ratings.
Best suitedPlayers who want the grip, scope, suppressor and large-magazine options together.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Special CarbineRifles

Special Carbine

A Vom Feuer rifle based on the Heckler & Koch G36C, added in the Business Update and priced at $14,750 at Ammu-Nation.

StrengthA Rank 1 unlock in GTA Online, according to GTABase, and a drum magazine option. Damage 34, fire rate 65, accuracy 55, range 40 on GTABase's ratings.
Best suitedGTA Online players who want its damage and accuracy ratings early.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Advanced RifleRifles

Advanced Rifle

StrengthHigher damage and fire-rate ratings than the Assault Rifle or Carbine Rifle. Damage 34, fire rate 70, accuracy 50, range 45 on GTABase's ratings.
Best suitedPlayers who want those ratings and do not need a grip.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Sniper RifleSnipers

Sniper Rifle

The Sniper Rifle is a Shrewsbury bolt-action long-range rifle in GTA V and GTA Online. It has a 10-round magazine and a built-in scope, and takes a suppressor, which the Heavy Sniper does not.

StrengthThe Sniper Rifle combines a long-range scope with strong single-shot performance and a 10-round magazine. Its main limitation is the bolt-action firing cycle: every shot requires the rifle to operate before the next round can be fired. It rewards patience and accurate target selection, but it is less forgiving than a semiautomatic weapon when several enemies attack at once.
Best suitedOverwatch, long-distance target elimination, clearing guards before an approach, and missions that give the player a protected position above or away from the main fight.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Heavy SniperSnipers

Heavy Sniper

The Heavy Sniper is a high-powered long-range rifle in Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online. It combines very high damage with a six-round magazine and a slow firing cycle, making it suited to deliberate shots from a distance rather than rapid follow-up fire.

StrengthVery high single-shot damage and long-range effectiveness, offset by slow handling, a small magazine and limited standard customization.
Best suitedPlayers who want a powerful scoped rifle for careful long-range shots in Story Mode or rank-based sniper engagements in GTA Online.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of RPGHeavy

RPG

The RPG is a single-shot heavy weapon that fires explosive rockets. In Story Mode it becomes available through Ammu-Nation after the campaign reaches the required point; in GTA Online it is a high-rank heavy weapon. It has no lock-on system, so the shooter must aim the rocket manually.

StrengthHigh explosive damage with a direct-impact rocket; effective against vehicles, helicopters, groups of enemies and cover positions.
Best suitedManual attacks on vehicles, aircraft that are not being tracked by a lock-on system, fortified positions and clustered enemies.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of GrenadeThrowables

Grenade

The Grenade is a thrown explosive in Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online. It is useful for attacking groups, flushing enemies from cover and damaging vehicles, but its blast can injure the player and allies.

StrengthThe Grenade combines a wide explosive area with a simple throw, making it useful against clustered enemies and targets using cover. It is less controllable than a Sticky Bomb because the detonation cannot be delayed or triggered remotely, and it is dangerous at close range.
Best suitedBreaking up groups of enemies, attacking targets around corners, clearing small areas and damaging vehicles when a remote detonation is not needed.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of KnifeMelee

Knife

The Knife is a close-range melee weapon in Grand Theft Auto V. It uses no ammunition and is useful for quiet attacks, stealth takedowns and emergencies when firearms are unavailable.

StrengthThe Knife requires no ammunition, is always available once acquired and supports stealth attacks at close range. Its limitations are equally clear: the player must get within striking distance, and it cannot compete with firearms against multiple or distant targets.
Best suitedStealth takedowns, quiet close-range attacks and situations where conserving ammunition matters.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Baseball BatMelee

Baseball Bat

The Baseball Bat is a two-handed melee weapon in Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online. It has no ammunition, reload animation, or firearm attachments. The player uses it for close-range swings, and it is available to the three Story Mode protagonists and to Online characters.

StrengthThe Baseball Bat provides more reach than an unarmed attack and can stagger or knock down close targets, but it requires the player to stay within melee distance and offers no protection against guns or other ranged weapons.
Best suitedClose-range fights against isolated pedestrians or enemies, quiet melee encounters when a mission allows free weapon selection, and players who want a blunt weapon without using ammunition.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of NightstickMelee

Nightstick

The Nightstick is a one-handed melee weapon used by police officers in Grand Theft Auto V. It is a short baton suited to close-range strikes and has no ammunition, attachments, or upgrade path.

StrengthThe Nightstick is dependable for immediate close-range combat because it requires no ammunition and can be carried in the melee weapon slot. Its limitations are its short reach and the need to remain within striking distance of the target.
Best suitedClose-range encounters, role-playing as a police officer, and conserving firearm ammunition when fighting a nearby target.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of HammerMelee

Hammer

The Hammer is a one-handed melee weapon in Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online. It has short reach, causes no ammunition concerns, and is suited to close-range attacks, improvised-looking fights, and quiet takedowns when firearms are unnecessary.

StrengthThe Hammer is dependable at very close range and costs nothing to operate after acquisition, but its short reach leaves the user exposed to firearms and longer-range weapons. It is practical for isolated close-quarters encounters rather than open combat.
Best suitedClose-range melee fights, conserving ammunition, and players who want a simple hand tool instead of a bladed weapon or firearm.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Golf ClubMelee

Golf Club

The Golf Club is a melee weapon in Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online. It is a standard golf club that can be swung as a blunt weapon, with no ammunition, attachments or upgrade system.

StrengthThe Golf Club provides reusable close-range blunt attacks and does not depend on ammunition. Its reach is useful compared with an unarmed attack, but it remains a short-range weapon and offers no attachments or alternate ammunition.
Best suitedClose-range melee encounters, incidental combat in Story Mode and using a simple blunt weapon without spending ammunition.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of CrowbarMelee

Crowbar

The Crowbar is a one-handed melee weapon in Grand Theft Auto V. It is an improvised close-quarters weapon with no ammunition, attachments, or weapon-specific upgrades.

StrengthThe Crowbar is useful when a player needs a close-range weapon without spending ammunition. Its limitations are equally clear: it requires the player to be within striking distance, has no ranged use, and offers no attachments or customization.
Best suitedClose-range attacks, breaking vehicle windows, and keeping a basic melee weapon available when firearms are unnecessary.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Broken BottleMelee

Broken Bottle

The Broken Bottle is a one-handed melee weapon in Grand Theft Auto V. It is a short-range improvised weapon made from a broken glass bottle, with no ammunition, attachments or upgrade path.

StrengthThe Broken Bottle is useful at very close range and can serve as a quiet alternative to a firearm. Its reach is short, and it offers no way to deal with distant targets or groups of armed enemies.
Best suitedClose-range melee attacks, improvised weapon use and situations where carrying or firing a gun would attract unwanted attention.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Antique Cavalry DaggerMelee

Antique Cavalry Dagger

The Antique Cavalry Dagger is a one-handed melee weapon in Grand Theft Auto V. It has an old-fashioned military appearance, with a long blade and a pronounced guard, but it functions as a conventional close-range knife rather than as a sword or throwable weapon.

StrengthThe dagger's main practical advantage is that it gives the player a bladed melee option without requiring ammunition. It is useful when an encounter takes place at arm's length, when the player wants to conserve firearm ammunition, or when a mission or activity limits the weapons that can be used. Its reach is still limited by the melee system, so it cannot replace a firearm against enemies at a distance.
Best suitedClose-range melee combat, quiet takedowns where a melee weapon is permitted, and players who want a distinctive bladed weapon in their collection.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of HatchetMelee

Hatchet

The Hatchet is a close-range melee weapon in Grand Theft Auto V. It is available in Story Mode after Trevor's introduction and can also be bought and used in GTA Online. It has no ammunition, attachments or firearm-style upgrades.

StrengthThe Hatchet provides repeatable close-range attacks without ammunition, making it suitable for melee encounters and situations where the player wants to avoid using a gun. Its limitation is its short reach: the character must be close to the target, and the weapon offers no ranged option or firearm-style customization.
Best suitedClose-range melee encounters, quiet takedowns when the player can approach safely, and players who want a hand weapon that does not consume ammunition.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Knuckle DustersMelee

Knuckle Dusters

Knuckle Dusters are a melee weapon in Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online. They reinforce the user's fists, allowing punches at close range while occupying the melee slot on the weapon wheel.

StrengthKnuckle Dusters give the player a compact close-range melee option without requiring ammunition. Their short reach is their main limitation, and they are less suitable than longer melee weapons when several opponents are spread around the player.
Best suitedClose-range fights, melee-only encounters, and situations where the player wants a weapon that behaves like a reinforced punch rather than a bladed or long-handled weapon.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of MacheteMelee

Machete

The Machete is a two-handed bladed melee weapon in Grand Theft Auto V. It has no ammunition, can be used by all three protagonists in Story Mode, and is also available for purchase and use in GTA Online.

StrengthThe Machete gives the player a damaging close-range option without using ammunition. Its reach and broad chopping animations make it distinct from smaller blades such as the Knife and Switchblade, while its lack of ranged capability means it is dependent on getting close to the target.
Best suitedClose-range melee attacks, quiet takedowns when the target can be reached safely, and players who want a large bladed weapon rather than a compact knife.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of FlashlightMelee

Flashlight

The Flashlight is a melee weapon in Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online. It functions as both a short-range bludgeon and a portable light, making it useful in dark interiors, tunnels and other poorly lit areas.

StrengthThe Flashlight provides utility as well as a melee attack: it lets the player see more clearly in dark spaces without switching to a firearm. Its combat use is limited by its short range and the need to remain close to a target.
Best suitedIlluminating dark interiors and dealing with isolated targets at very close range.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of SwitchbladeMelee

Switchblade

The Switchblade is a folding melee knife sold in GTA Online.

StrengthIts small size and immediate close-range attacks make it useful when a player wants a quiet melee option instead of a firearm. Like other knives, it requires the player to get close to the target, so it is poorly suited to open fights against enemies armed with guns.
Best suitedClose-range melee encounters, stealth-oriented play when a firearm is not wanted, and carrying a compact bladed weapon alongside a larger ranged arsenal.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Pool CueMelee

Pool Cue

The Pool Cue is a melee weapon in Grand Theft Auto V. It is a long wooden cue used for close-range strikes and has no ammunition, attachments or upgrade path.

StrengthThe Pool Cue is useful when a character needs a melee weapon without using ammunition. Its reach is longer than that of some hand-held weapons, but it remains a close-range tool and provides no ranged option or special effect.
Best suitedClose-range encounters, improvised melee combat and players who want a simple pool-hall weapon rather than a firearm.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Pipe WrenchMelee

Pipe Wrench

The Pipe Wrench is a heavy melee weapon in Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online. It has no ammunition, attachments, or upgrade paths, and is used at close range for ordinary melee attacks.

StrengthThe Pipe Wrench provides a straightforward close-range melee option without requiring ammunition. Its limitations are the same as those of other short-range blunt weapons: it requires the player to get close to the target and has no ranged attack, attachment system, or special effect.
Best suitedClose-range fights, improvised melee encounters, and players who want a blunt weapon rather than a bladed melee weapon.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Battle AxeMelee

Battle Axe

The Battle Axe is a heavy melee weapon in Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online. It trades the quick handling of a knife or switchblade for broad, forceful swings at close range.

StrengthStrong close-range impact with no ammunition requirement, but limited reach and slower handling than lighter melee weapons.
Best suitedPlayers who want a heavy melee weapon for close-quarters fights, isolated enemies and informal melee combat rather than a weapon for open areas or armed targets.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Stone HatchetMelee

Stone Hatchet

The Stone Hatchet is a unique melee weapon in GTA Online. It is obtained by completing Maude Eccles’s bounty-hunting requests, then finding the weapon at the location she provides. Its special rampage effect rewards rapid kills by increasing the player’s damage output and reducing incoming damage for a short time.

StrengthIts special rampage effect gives it a use beyond ordinary close-range combat. Once active, it can help the player survive several nearby enemies. It is also permanently unlocked after the related activity and does not require ammunition.
Best suitedClose-range fights, bounty-hunting activities, and challenge runs where consecutive melee kills can keep the rampage effect active.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Candy CaneMelee

Candy Cane

The Candy Cane is a novelty melee weapon available in GTA Online. It is a festive item shaped like a large candy cane and is used as a close-range club.

StrengthThe Candy Cane is a basic close-range blunt weapon. Its value is primarily novelty and seasonal character rather than a distinct attachment system or ranged combat role.
Best suitedHoliday-themed free-roam play, melee-only challenges, and players who want a festive alternative to conventional blunt weapons.

StrengthThe Machine Pistol combines a compact profile with a high rate of fire. It is convenient in vehicles and can put several rounds on a nearby target quickly. Its small standard magazine, recoil and limited long-range usefulness make controlled bursts more practical than holding the trigger continuously at distant targets.
Best suitedClose-range encounters, vehicle combat and situations where a compact automatic weapon is more useful than a regular pistol.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Mini SMGSMGs

Mini SMG

The Mini SMG is a compact automatic weapon in GTA Online. Its 20-round standard magazine can be extended to 30 rounds.

StrengthThe Tactical SMG combines a compact profile, automatic fire and vehicle compatibility. Its extended magazine gives it a large reserve for sustained close-range fire, but the weapon is still most appropriate for short- and medium-range encounters rather than long-distance shooting.
Best suitedDrive-bys, close-quarters fights, rapid attacks in interiors and situations where a compact automatic weapon is easier to handle than a rifle.

Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Combat MGSMGs

Combat MG

The Combat MG is an automatic machine gun in GTA V and GTA Online. Its 100-round standard magazine can be extended to 200 rounds.

StrengthThe Combat MG’s defining strengths are its large ammunition capacity, automatic fire and ability to maintain pressure on several targets. It is forgiving when a player misses some shots because the weapon does not require constant reloading. The extended magazine is particularly useful during long shootouts. Its main limitations are automatic-fire spread, recoil and the time needed to handle targets at long distance. It is easier to use at close and medium range, where its volume of fire matters more than precise shot placement.
Best suitedSustained firefights, defending a position and engaging several targets before reloading.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Gusenberg SweeperSMGs

Gusenberg Sweeper

StrengthThe Gusenberg Sweeper provides rapid automatic fire and has a larger extended capacity than its standard magazine. It is effective when fighting at close range, especially when the player needs to keep pressure on several nearby enemies. Its rate of fire makes it less dependent on single accurate shots than a pistol or a semi-automatic weapon.
Best suitedClose-range automatic fire and a classic gangster-era look.

Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Sawed-Off ShotgunShotguns

Sawed-Off Shotgun

The Sawed-Off Shotgun is a compact pump-action shotgun in GTA V and GTA Online. It holds eight shells and can be fired from motorcycles and boats where permitted.

StrengthThe Sawed-Off Shotgun combines strong close-range impact with a comparatively large ammunition capacity and vehicle compatibility. Its main weaknesses are limited range, wide spread and the absence of precision or tactical attachments.
Best suitedClose-quarters fights, vehicle combat, sudden attacks around cover and situations where a compact weapon with several rapid shots is more useful than a long-range firearm.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Bullpup ShotgunShotguns

Bullpup Shotgun

The Bullpup Shotgun is a pump-action shotgun with a bullpup layout, giving it a large ammunition capacity while keeping the weapon compact.

StrengthThe Bullpup Shotgun's main practical strength is its 14-shell capacity. It can keep firing through several close-range encounters without the frequent reloads associated with smaller shotguns. Its compact bullpup layout also makes it a natural weapon for indoor fighting and other situations where a short firearm is convenient. Because it fires several pellets at once, the weapon does not require rifle-like precision at short distance. Aiming at the center of an enemy's body gives the spread a chance to connect with multiple pellets. The pump action limits its follow-up speed compared with automatic shotguns, so misses are costly and the user should avoid treating it like an assault weapon. The Bullpup Shotgun is particularly useful when an enemy is close enough for the spread to remain concentrated. At longer distances, the pellets spread out and individual hits become less reliable. Taking deliberate shots, using cover during the pump cycle and staying within the weapon's effective close-range role are more important than simply carrying a large reserve of shells.
Best suitedClose-range fights, indoor combat and players who want a shotgun with a large capacity and a compact profile.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of MusketShotguns

Musket

The Musket is a single-shot, muzzle-loading shotgun in Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online. It fires one powerful blast, but must be reloaded after every shot.

StrengthThe Musket delivers a strong close-range blast and has a longer effective reach than its antique appearance suggests. Its main limitation is the mandatory reload after every shot. Missing, firing too early or being caught by several enemies leaves the player with no immediate follow-up shot.
Best suitedCareful single-target attacks, close-range ambushes, challenge runs and players who want a deliberately old-fashioned weapon. It is less suitable for crowded fights, missions requiring continuous suppressive fire or situations where the player cannot take cover during the reload.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Heavy ShotgunShotguns

Heavy Shotgun

The Heavy Shotgun is a semi-automatic, magazine-fed shotgun from Shrewsbury, sold at Ammu-Nation for $13,550 in Story Mode and GTA Online. It holds 6 shells by default, 12 with the extended clip and, in GTA Online, 30 with the drum magazine.

StrengthThe Heavy Shotgun delivers repeated close-range shots quickly, and its large optional magazines let it deal with several enemies before reloading. Its detachable magazine also makes a full reload a single action rather than loading individual shells into a tube. The weapon is particularly effective indoors, around vehicles and during encounters where enemies approach through a narrow route. Its main limitation is range. It does not provide the precision or sustained reach of a rifle, and it uses ammunition quickly when fired rapidly. Players who repeatedly empty the magazine may need to reload at an exposed moment, so controlled follow-up shots are useful even though the weapon supports a fast firing pace.
Best suitedClose-range fights, interior combat, vehicle ambushes and encounters against several nearby enemies.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Double Barrel ShotgunShotguns

Double Barrel Shotgun

The Double Barrel Shotgun is a two-shell shotgun with very high damage and very low range and accuracy. It was added with the Lowriders: Custom Classics update and costs $15,450 at Ammu-Nation in GTA Online from Rank 1.

StrengthHigh close-range damage, simple operation and two quick shots before reloading. It is less dependable when the target is outside its short effective range or when a fight involves several enemies.
Best suitedShort-range encounters where the player can place two quick shots and then find cover to reload. It works well in confined spaces and as a compact backup for players who do not need sustained fire.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Sweeper ShotgunShotguns

Sweeper Shotgun

The Sweeper Shotgun is a rapid-firing GTA Online shotgun from Shrewsbury with a 10-shell drum. It was added with the Bikers update and costs $14,900 at Ammu-Nation from Rank 1, with tints as its only customisation.

StrengthThe Sweeper Shotgun can deliver several shots in quick succession at close range. This makes it useful when an enemy survives the first shot or when several targets are packed into a small area. It also needs no manual cycling, so it is less demanding to operate than a pump-action shotgun during a fast-moving fight.
Best suitedClose-quarters combat, short-range fights against several enemies, and situations where rapid follow-up shots matter more than precision at distance.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Combat ShotgunShotguns

Combat Shotgun

The Combat Shotgun is a semi-automatic GTA Online shotgun added with The Cayo Perico Heist. Finding one during the heist finale unlocks it at Ammu-Nation for $295,000.

StrengthThe Combat Shotgun combines strong close-range damage with fast semi-automatic follow-up shots. Its main limitations are its short effective range and its 6-shell magazine, which has no larger option on GTABase's list.
Best suitedPlayers who want a fast-firing shotgun for room clearing, compound interiors, tight alleys and other short-range fights in GTA Online.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Pump Shotgun Mk IIShotguns

Pump Shotgun Mk II

The Pump Shotgun Mk II is the GTA Online Weapon Workshop conversion of the Pump Shotgun, costing $82,500. It keeps the pump action and an 8-shell tube, and adds four researched shell types, sights, a suppressor or muzzle brake, and liveries.

StrengthThe Pump Shotgun Mk II combines strong close-range damage with the flexibility of special ammunition. Its 8-shell tube gives it far more capacity than a double-barrel shotgun, and the pump action is simpler and more deliberate than rapid-fire shotguns. Its limitations are the need to cycle between shots, weaker performance at long range and the limited supply of special shells.
Best suitedClose-range combat in interiors, alleys, stairwells and other confined spaces. Standard shells are the general-purpose choice. Flechette suits unarmored targets, Steel Buckshot suits armored ones, and Dragon's Breath and Explosive Slug are specialised options.

Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Compact RifleRifles

Compact Rifle

The Compact Rifle is a short assault rifle from Shrewsbury, sold at Ammu-Nation for $14,650 from Rank 1 in GTA Online. It holds 30 rounds, 60 with an extended clip and 100 with a drum magazine.

StrengthThe Compact Rifle pairs a low price and a very large optional drum with a short, distinctive weapon model. Its trade-offs are weak accuracy and a smaller attachment selection than several full-size rifles.
Best suitedPlayers who want a cheap rifle-class weapon with a large magazine for general GTA Online gunfights at close and medium range.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Military RifleRifles

Military Rifle

The Military Rifle is a fully automatic GTA Online assault rifle from Vom Feuer, added with The Cayo Perico Heist. It costs $397,500 at Ammu-Nation and takes 30-round or 45-round magazines.

StrengthThe Military Rifle provides automatic rifle fire in a short design, with a higher accuracy rating than the Compact Rifle and Heavy Rifle on GTABase. Its scope and suppressor allow more deliberate setups. GTAside notes heavy recoil, and its 45-round maximum is smaller than the Compact Rifle's drum.
Best suitedGTA Online players who want a fully automatic rifle with a compact shape for general combat and missions where a rifle is more useful than a pistol-calibre weapon.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Heavy RifleRifles

Heavy Rifle

The Heavy Rifle is a fully automatic GTA Online assault rifle from Vom Feuer, added with The Contract. It costs $450,000 at Ammu-Nation and holds 30 rounds as standard.

StrengthThe Heavy Rifle provides strong rifle-class performance at medium range, with a wide attachment list including a grip. GTAside places its damage per second level with the Advanced Rifle, at a much higher price.
Best suitedMedium-range firefights, missions against numerous enemies, and players who prefer accurate bursts over sustained automatic fire.

StrengthHigh damage rating and, according to GTADB, strong penetration that can hit several enemies in a line. Damage 41, fire rate 52, accuracy 42, range 45 on GTABase's ratings.
Best suitedGTA Online players who prefer deliberate fire and heavier individual shots, and can afford the price.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Assault Rifle Mk IIRifles

Assault Rifle Mk II

The Assault Rifle Mk II is a GTA Online conversion of the Assault Rifle, made by Shrewsbury. It adds special ammunition, optics, muzzle options and a heavy barrel, and it is not available in Story Mode.

StrengthThe Assault Rifle Mk II is a flexible automatic rifle for players who want one weapon that can be adjusted for ordinary firefights, stealth-oriented use or specialized ammunition. Its conventional setup works well at short and medium ranges, while the heavy barrel, optics and grip can make it easier to control and aim. Special ammunition gives it additional uses, but those rounds are more situational than the standard ammunition, and three of the four cut the magazine to 20 rounds.
Best suitedGeneral-purpose rifle use in GTA Online, especially players who regularly use Weapon Workshops and want access to Mk II attachments or special ammunition.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Carbine Rifle Mk IIRifles

Carbine Rifle Mk II

The Carbine Rifle Mk II is the upgraded GTA Online version of the Carbine Rifle, combining a fast-firing assault-rifle platform with weapon-workshop ammunition and attachment options. It is not available as a separate weapon in Story Mode.

StrengthThe Carbine Rifle Mk II is flexible rather than a completely different class of weapon. Its principal advantages are controllable automatic fire, a useful medium-range profile, and the ability to change ammunition and attachments for a particular activity. The standard magazine is compact, while the extended magazine allows longer strings of fire before reloading. Its specialized ammunition is the main reason to use the Mk II instead of stopping with the standard Carbine Rifle. Incendiary rounds can set targets alight, armor-piercing rounds are intended for armored targets, full-metal-jacket rounds are aimed at vehicles and bullet-resistant glass, and tracer rounds make the trajectory easier to see. Each special magazine has a limited capacity and is less universally useful than ordinary ammunition, so the default magazine remains practical for routine combat. The rifle is effective when fired in controlled bursts at medium range. Automatic fire is useful in close fights, but a player who holds the trigger continuously at longer range gives up some accuracy to recoil and spread. A scope, grip, muzzle device, and magazine choice can shift the weapon toward stealth, stability, visibility, or a particular target type.
Best suitedPlayers who want a configurable automatic rifle for GTA Online missions, heists, freemode fights, and other medium-range encounters. The ordinary magazine is the general-purpose choice; the specialized magazines are better reserved for situations where their particular effects matter.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Special Carbine Mk IIRifles

Special Carbine Mk II

The Special Carbine Mk II is the upgraded GTA Online version of the Special Carbine, a fully automatic rifle manufactured by Vom Feuer. It keeps the original weapon’s compact rifle design while adding Mk II ammunition, barrel, muzzle, sight and magazine options.

StrengthThe Special Carbine Mk II is flexible because its attachment system supports several different roles. With its ordinary ammunition it works as a practical automatic rifle for general combat. A larger magazine can reduce the need to reload during extended fights, while a different barrel, muzzle or sight can be chosen to suit the player’s preferred range and handling. Its main advantage over the standard Special Carbine is this ability to customize the weapon rather than a change to its basic firing role.
Best suitedPlayers who want one automatic rifle that can be adjusted for general-purpose combat, different sight preferences and specialist ammunition.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Bullpup Rifle Mk IIRifles

Bullpup Rifle Mk II

The Bullpup Rifle Mk II is the GTA Online conversion of the Bullpup Rifle, made by Hawk & Little. It adds special ammunition and new attachments, and GTAside lists it as the fastest-killing of the Mk II rifles.

StrengthA flexible automatic rifle with a compact design, a 30-round standard magazine and a broad set of Mk II customization options. Its main advantages are adaptability and useful medium-range handling rather than a unique gimmick. GTAside lists damage per second of 275, the highest of the four Mk II rifles, and gtaboss lists 500 rounds per minute.
Best suitedGTA Online players who want one automatic rifle that can be configured for ordinary firefights, improved accuracy through optics and barrel upgrades, or specialized ammunition for particular targets.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Marksman RifleSnipers

Marksman Rifle

The Marksman Rifle is a semi-automatic sniper-class weapon in GTA V. It combines a rifle-style firing mechanism with a telescopic sight, allowing rapid follow-up shots at long and medium range while retaining the precision expected from a sniper weapon.

StrengthThe Marksman Rifle's defining strength is its combination of precision and firing speed. It can maintain pressure on a target at a distance without forcing the player to lower the weapon and cycle a bolt after every shot. This is particularly useful when an enemy moves out of the original aim point, when several targets appear close together, or when a first shot fails to finish a target. The weapon is less convenient when the player must fight at very short range. Its scope and sniper-class handling make it less flexible than an assault rifle or carbine rifle in close quarters, and its small magazine demands more frequent reloads. The player also has to manage each shot individually because the rifle is semi-automatic rather than fully automatic. Controlled fire is more effective than repeatedly pulling the trigger without correcting the aim.
Best suitedMedium- and long-range fights where rapid follow-up shots matter. It is suited to picking off exposed enemies, covering an approach, engaging targets from rooftops or elevated ground, and dealing with moving opponents that may not remain in one place long enough for a bolt-action rifle to be comfortable.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Precision RifleSnipers

Precision Rifle

The Precision Rifle is a Vom Feuer sniper-class rifle in GTA Online, sold at Ammu-Nation for GTA$450,000. It has no scope and no functional attachments, and GTAside lists the same damage and rate of fire as the GTA$20,000 Sniper Rifle.

StrengthLong-range rating of 95 on GTABase, with damage rated at 88. Its limits are the lack of a scope, attachments or larger magazine.
Best suitedCollectors, or players who want this particular rifle for its look. For performance, GTAside recommends it only for collectors.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Heavy Sniper Mk IISnipers

Heavy Sniper Mk II

The Heavy Sniper Mk II is the upgraded online version of the Heavy Sniper, combining long-range rifle damage with specialized ammunition and optional night-vision or thermal optics.

StrengthIts main advantages are long-range reach, high damage with regular ammunition and the flexibility provided by special rounds and advanced optics. Explosive ammunition can threaten vehicles and clustered targets, while thermal and night-vision scopes help identify targets in conditions where a normal scope is less useful. The extended magazine adds two rounds. The weapon is less convenient in close combat. It is heavy, has a slow firing rhythm and gives the user fewer opportunities to correct a missed shot than a faster rifle. Special ammunition can also reduce the situations in which the weapon is appropriate: explosive rounds are valuable against vehicles and groups, but regular or armor-piercing rounds are generally more appropriate when precise single-target fire is required.
Best suitedLong-range engagements, overwatch, defensive positions, vehicle attacks with explosive rounds and Online activities where thermal or night-vision optics are useful.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Marksman Rifle Mk IISnipers

Marksman Rifle Mk II

The Marksman Rifle Mk II is a semi-automatic sniper-class rifle available in GTA Online. It is an upgraded version of the Marksman Rifle, with a broader selection of magazines, ammunition types, scopes, muzzles, grips, and cosmetic finishes.

StrengthThe Marksman Rifle Mk II combines sniper-class accuracy with a semi-automatic firing cycle. It can deliver follow-up shots more quickly than [Sniper Rifle](/gta-v/weapons/sniper-rifle/), and its Mk II ammunition system gives it more specialized uses than the unmodified rifle. Its main limitation is that rapid fire can reduce accuracy and exhaust the magazine quickly.
Best suitedPlayers who want a scoped precision weapon that can engage several targets without the delay of a bolt-action cycle. It is also suitable for players who want to switch between ordinary rounds and specialized Mk II ammunition.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Grenade LauncherHeavy

Grenade Launcher

The Grenade Launcher is a heavy weapon that fires explosive grenades in a high arc. In Story Mode it unlocks after Trevor Philips Industries; in GTA Online it is an Ammu-Nation weapon from Rank 60. Its revolving-cylinder design gives it several shots before reloading, making it useful for clearing groups, vehicles and fortified positions.

StrengthIts ten-round capacity and explosive impact make it effective against groups of enemies, enemies using low cover and vehicles that can be reached by arcing fire. The main drawbacks are its slow reload, limited precision at long range and the danger of catching yourself or nearby allies in the blast.
Best suitedMedium-range attacks against clustered enemies, vehicles and targets behind low cover. It is also useful when a direct rifle line is unavailable but a grenade can be lobbed over an obstacle.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Compact Grenade LauncherHeavy

Compact Grenade Launcher

The Compact Grenade Launcher is a Vom Feuer heavy weapon added to GTA Online in the Bikers update. It costs $45,000 at Ammu-Nation, loads one grenade at a time, and can be fired from motorcycles and boats.

StrengthIts one-handed design allows use from motorcycles and boats, and arcing grenades can attack around cover. That makes it effective in alleys, parking areas, roadblocks and other places where enemies or vehicles are close together. It can also put pressure on players who remain behind cars or other light cover. The weapon is less dependable at long range. The projectile's arc requires practice, and missed shots can bounce away from the intended target. A reload follows every shot, and it lacks the precision of firearms, so it should not replace a rifle or pistol for ordinary targets. Explosive weapons can also be dangerous at close distance, especially when fired beside a wall, vehicle or other obstruction.
Best suitedVehicle combat, attacks against groups or vehicles, firing over or around cover, and short- to medium-range explosive pressure in GTA Online.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of MinigunHeavy

Minigun

The Minigun is a heavy weapon in Grand Theft Auto V that fires six-barrel rotary-machine-gun ammunition at an extremely high rate. It has a large ammunition reserve, no conventional reload animation, and enough sustained fire to destroy vehicles and suppress groups of enemies quickly. In Story Mode, it becomes available after The Paleto Score; in GTA Online, it is an Ammu-Nation purchase at Rank 120.

StrengthThe Minigun's main strength is sustained damage. It can keep a continuous stream of bullets on a target without stopping to reload, and its ammunition is effective against unarmored enemies, vehicles and aircraft that remain in the line of fire. Grand Theft Wiki notes that the player cannot sprint with it or use it from cover, so plan the firing position first. Its weaknesses are the spin-up delay, heavy ammunition consumption and lack of precision compared with rifles. The weapon is loud and conspicuous, and holding the trigger for too long can waste ammunition on targets that have already been eliminated. In confined spaces, its wide stream of fire can also make it harder to place shots exactly where intended.
Best suitedLarge enemy groups, vehicle destruction, defensive positions, and missions or activities where the player can keep targets in front of the weapon for several seconds. It is less suitable for quiet takedowns, careful long-range shots, or situations where ammunition must be conserved.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Firework LauncherHeavy

Firework Launcher

The Firework Launcher is a heavy weapon that fires single explosive fireworks. It arrived with the Independence Day update in 2014. Story Mode sells it at Ammu-Nation, while GTABase describes it as a limited-time weapon in GTA Online.

StrengthUseful for novelty firing, visual effects and manually aimed explosive attacks. Its single-shot operation, lack of lock-on and low damage rating make it less convenient for ordinary combat than other heavy weapons.
Best suitedPlayers who want an explosive launcher with a distinctive firework trail, especially during free-roam activities and celebrations.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of RailgunHeavy

Railgun

The Railgun is a Coil heavy weapon that fires a high-energy projectile at extreme speed. It has no conventional magazine: each shot is loaded individually, and the weapon must be cycled before firing again. Its ammunition is limited, but GamersDecide says it destroys anything it hits.

StrengthThe Railgun combines a fast, accurate projectile with enough impact to threaten vehicles, aircraft and groups of enemies near the point of impact. Its main limitations are its one-shot firing cycle, recoil, small ammunition reserve and lack of lock-on guidance.
Best suitedDeliberate attacks on vehicles, helicopters, aircraft and exposed groups of enemies at medium or long range. It is particularly useful when the player can take a shot, find cover and reload rather than remain in a close-range exchange.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Homing LauncherHeavy

Homing Launcher

The Homing Launcher is a single-shot heavy weapon that fires guided explosive missiles. In Story Mode and GTA Online, it can lock onto vehicles and aircraft before launch, making it useful against helicopters, planes, boats and ground vehicles that are difficult to hit with a manually aimed rocket.

StrengthIts main strength is the ability to guide an explosive missile toward a locked vehicle or aircraft. This reduces the need to lead a moving target manually and makes the weapon practical against airborne targets that are hard to hit with an unguided launcher. The trade-offs are its single-shot reload cycle, limited ammunition, heavy weapon handling and the time needed to establish a lock.
Best suitedAttacking helicopters, planes, boats and moving vehicles when a lock can be established. It is also useful as a deterrent against aircraft in GTA Online, though a lock-on warning gives the target an opportunity to evade.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Compact EMP LauncherHeavy

Compact EMP Launcher

The Compact EMP Launcher is a GTA Online heavy weapon that fires electromagnetic-pulse projectiles designed to disable vehicles for five seconds. It is not available in GTA V Story Mode.

StrengthVehicle control. The Compact EMP Launcher gives the player a way to interrupt moving vehicles without relying on a conventional explosive launcher.
Best suitedStopping or delaying vehicles during pursuits, vehicle-based attacks, and situations where disabling a target is more useful than destroying it.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of WidowmakerHeavy

Widowmaker

The Widowmaker is a futuristic minigun in GTA Online, added in the Arena War update. It costs $449,000 from the Gun Van, carries up to 9,999 rounds, and has the same published ratings as the Minigun.

StrengthThe Widowmaker provides sustained heavy automatic fire and can keep pressure on targets without the explosive handling of a rocket launcher or grenade launcher. It is useful against exposed opponents, groups of enemies and some vehicles when the user can maintain aim. Its heavy-weapon handling, lack of conventional attachments and dependence on direct aim make it less flexible than smaller automatic weapons in confined spaces or during fast movement.
Best suitedSustained fire against exposed players, NPC groups, vehicles and aircraft when the user has room to aim and keep the weapon trained on the target.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Sticky BombThrowables

Sticky Bomb

The Sticky Bomb is a throwable remote explosive in Grand Theft Auto V. It attaches to surfaces and vehicles, then detonates when the player gives the detonation command. Story Mode introduces it during Trevor’s mission Friends Reunited, while GTA Online makes it available as a rank-based Ammu-Nation weapon.

StrengthThe Sticky Bomb gives the player control over both placement and timing. It can be attached to a pursuing or parked vehicle, placed near an entrance before enemies arrive, or used to prepare an escape route. Its main limitation is that it requires planning: the player must place it safely, avoid being caught in the blast, and use the detonation command at the right moment.
Best suitedPlanned ambushes, vehicle traps, mission objectives that require a delayed explosion, and destroying a target after creating distance from it.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Proximity MineThrowables

Proximity Mine

The Proximity Mine is a throwable explosive that remains on the ground or another surface until a person or vehicle comes close enough to trigger it. It is useful for preparing an ambush, blocking a route, protecting an objective or punishing pursuing vehicles.

StrengthIts strength is control of space. A mine can cover a route while the player concentrates on another direction, damage a vehicle that is following too closely or turn a predictable approach into a hazard. It is less dependable in an open area, where targets can approach from several directions or simply avoid the marked location.
Best suitedPreparing ambushes, protecting a retreat, covering doorways and narrow roads, attacking pursuing vehicles, and setting traps around an objective before starting a fight.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of BZ GasThrowables

BZ Gas

BZ Gas is a non-lethal variant of Tear Gas used in Grand Theft Auto V Story Mode. GTABase says it appears exclusively in the mission BZ Gas Grenades, and Michael steals it for the Smart approach to The Jewel Store Job.

StrengthIts strength is its story role: a non-lethal knockout gas that lets the Smart approach avoid a loud gunfight. It has no general role in free play according to GTABase.
Best suitedThe Smart approach to The Jewel Store Job.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Molotov CocktailThrowables

Molotov Cocktail

The Molotov Cocktail is a throwable incendiary weapon in Grand Theft Auto V. It breaks when thrown, spreads burning fuel across the impact area and can set people, vehicles and nearby objects on fire.

StrengthThe Molotov Cocktail is effective when enemies are grouped together or occupying a confined position. The fire remains after the throw, so it can deny a doorway, alley, stairway or vehicle route instead of affecting only the target at the moment of impact. It is also useful for starting vehicle fires and disrupting enemies who are using cover. Its limitations are equally important. The flames do not provide the instant, concentrated blast of a grenade, and an enemy can sometimes escape the burning area before taking much damage. The projectile also requires a clear throwing path. A low ceiling, nearby wall or piece of cover can cause the bottle to break short of its intended target. Fire can make an area dangerous for the player and allies as well as enemies.
Best suitedFlushing enemies from cover, blocking narrow routes, starting vehicle fires and damaging groups that are close together.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Tear GasThrowables

Tear Gas

Tear Gas is a throwable grenade in Grand Theft Auto V that releases a lingering cloud, affecting anyone caught inside it. It is available in Story Mode and GTA Online, where it is used mainly to disrupt groups rather than deal immediate damage.

StrengthTear Gas is useful for area denial and disrupting clustered enemies, but it is less reliable than an explosive against targets that can move away from the cloud.
Best suitedBreaking up groups, flushing enemies from a small area, controlling a doorway or route, and creating distance during a fight.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of FlareThrowables

Flare

The Flare is a GTA Online signalling item from Merryweather, not a combat weapon. It marks a location and comes with an Airstrike request, according to GTABase and GTADB.

StrengthIts value is signalling, not firepower. GTADB says it marks a location or area. It deals no damage of its own on GTABase's ratings.
Best suitedMarking a location for a Merryweather Airstrike in GTA Online.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Pipe BombThrowables

Pipe Bomb

The Pipe Bomb is a throwable explosive sold in GTA Online since the 2016 Bikers update. GTABase and GTADB list it at $500 from Ammu-Nation and the Gun Van.

StrengthThe Pipe Bomb gives GTA Online players a cheap throwable blast, at $500 from Rank 1. GTABase rates its damage at 85 out of 100. It carries less than other explosives, with a base capacity of 10.
Best suitedExplosive attacks in GTA Online when a cheap throwable is enough.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of Jerry CanThrowables

Jerry Can

The Jerry Can is a fuel container that can be used as an improvised incendiary weapon in GTA V. Rather than throwing the container, the player pours a trail of gasoline onto the ground and ignites it with a separate source of fire. It is available in Story Mode and GTA Online.

StrengthThe Jerry Can provides area control and can ignite vehicles or groups of targets when the player has time to lay down fuel. It is less practical in a fast firefight because it requires the player to pour the fuel and then create a separate ignition source.
Best suitedSetting vehicles or selected areas on fire, creating a burning barrier, and reproducing the fire-setting sequence from Crystal Maze.
Illustrative GTA-style weapon imagery, not an exact render of BallThrowables

Ball

A toy that Franklin throws to play fetch with Chop. It deals no damage and is placed in his throwable slot when he walks the dog.
